Sweet sounding recording, with great stereo 3D sound field. Sure, the recording level is a little low, but turn it up with the headphones on! Wow!
Kinda of a snoozer second set (too much H?) but well played. Other One rocks.

As was said this show was a great time. This tour was a great time. I saw all summer shows and it was the time of my life. I think it rained every show this summer at some point because when I got home I scribed Box Of Rain Summer 89 and sank a giant crystal into a freshly poured sidewalk in front of my Moms house. This was the last camping at the show tour.We stayed over between shows near the river. And this is the place where the portajohn was turned over on someone, and also a friend of mine passed out over two hundred joints that were prerolled!

I am surprised that nobody mentioned the He's Gone second set opener here. Along with the Sugaree set II opener from the previous night, Jerry really picked some treats for these two shows.
P.S. - I do here the Dark Star tease that Phils pulls during the first set tune up. Well, the next year RFK got it's Dark Star, and it poured that year too. We also got one there in 1991, and it was hot as could be. Then in 92 it was the Casey Jones kickdown. Some pretty great shows there those handful of years.
teetering btwn 3 & 4 stars to me. I'll go with 4 I guess.

Of all the shows I went to this one stands out in my mind. It was a beautiful summer day, I was on the field at RFK with my friends and we were close to the stage and the band was on that afternoon. I still have my ticket, a little worse for wear after geing in my pocket durring the rain that went on for most of the second set before clearing for the US Blues encore. Even though its not one of my favorite songs, Brent's I Will Take You Home sticks in my memory, mainly because my friend Ellen nudged me and pointed out the close up pictures of Brent's daughters on the screen, I think their pictures were actually on his keyboard. Anyway, listening to this show sixteen years later it still sounds good to me.

This was a favorite show. I was on the field right at the back of the stadium. Just as Bobby finished Looks Like Rain, the clouds opened up and the downpour began. It rained and rained all the way to the encore and no one cared. Since it was July in DC, a rainstorm is always welcomed. The field was inches deep in mud and everyone danced like there was no tomorrow.

This show has its moments .We sat up in the nosebleed section and I remember in Tennessee Jed it felt like the bass was going to collapse the upper deck of the stadium !The real lows from the bass come through on this recording pretty good.It is hard to capture chest pounding bass on an audience.Cold Rain,10ac Jed,Lay Me Down,L.L Rain,Terrapin and Wharf Rat are the standouts for me ,but its all good .A little EQ and turned up this show comes to life ,and IMO sounds pretty good.I think the reason no one mentioned He,s Gone was because it was only a so so version and to open set 2 with a song that has drag potential is not as uplifting as say a Scarlet or a Shakedown.

It had been 5 years since the last dark star, so i had my buddies make a sign reminding the boys and we stood up front and unfurled it for phil when they came out for the first set. he looked at it and said "oh my god! 5 years!" in mock surprise and then teased it. you can hear it around 3:30 in the tuning on this recording. of course, they didnt play it, but i think the reason they brought it back in hampton on fall tour might have had something to do with it. probably not... still, one of my favorite memories from a great year for the dead.

This shows seems better than I recall. I just remember sitting down and talking the whole show. I didn't even remember them playing 'To Lay Me Down' O well, I do remember 'I will Take You Home' was pretty sweet with the big screen showing a picture of Brent's kid but thats about it. 88 was not an exciting year for me.
